Our member companies can cut and dye flock to your exact specifications and offer you advice and consultation based on your flock requirements. Flock can be dyed to almost any color and subtle tonal effects can be achieved by blending different colored flock fibers. Iridescent, high sheen, and matte finishes are all possible. It is also possible to color flock adhesives to enhance color density or create color contrasts. Multi-colored flocked designs are easy to produce using flock transfers or with screen-printing techniques.

Want to use a large palette of colors? White or pale flocked surfaces can be colored or dyed directly using sublimatic or digital printing methods, providing stunning and cost effective results.

Craft

No job too small for flock!

Anyone can enjoy and experiment with the engaging and magical flocking process.

Flock is perfect for crafters and small commercial applications. Perhaps you wish to simulate velvet, suede, fur or feathers in your craft project. Flock fits the job.

The American Flock Association can put you in touch with one of our member companies to collaborate with you on your small scale projects. We can direct you to suppliers of flock equipment, materials, and adhesives for home use.

Pattern

Patterning is easily achieved with flocking. Flock adhesives can be applied in intricate patterns using engraved rolls or rotary screens. The wonderful texture or pile gained through flocking can be embossed or etched using compressed air and other techniques.

Complex designs can be perfectly integrated with the sumptuous texture of flock. It is now possible to create double-flocked effects which yield a sculptured or pile look. A pattern is screen printed using adhesive onto a pre-flocked substrate. This design is then flocked providing a wonderful relief effect. Multicolored patterns can be applied to flocked surfaces using wet process or sublistatic printing.

Texture: Beyond Flat

Simply applying flock to a surface or substrate, whether three-dimensional or flat, will transform its surface texture. Endless textural effects can be created utilizing the wide range of flock fibers that are available. Incredibly subtle textures which feel silky and smooth are flocked using fine microfibers while coarse, bristly textures are created using high denier (dtex) flock of lengths up to 6.00mm.

Flock fiber can be cut and finished in several ways that will affect the final surface texture and handle. Our member companies can cut flock to random lengths or with exacting precision. The wonderful texture or pile gained through flocking can be embossed or etched using compressed air, brushing, ironing, and other techniques.
