What is Flocking?
Flocking or fiber coating is the process of enhancing the quality of a wide range of surfaces by application of fibers and adhesives to add the following values to the original:
aesthetic (color, rich look of textile versus plain flat plastic)
functional (durability, insulation)
tactile (texture, comfort and dimension)
informational (airbag labels)
logo branding
The flocking process can magically transform a plain, flat, shiny plastic texture to a rich, warm, intensely-colored, comfortable and visually compelling surface.
This is accomplished by attaching millions of loose synthetic or natural pre-colored fibers to the surface being decorated. Over the years flocking technology and materials have naturally evolved so that today there are many options available through American Flocking Association member companies.
The intention of this web site is to help visitors who may benefit from use of the flocking process by providing basic information about the range of possibilities with this amazing technology. You will find illustrations of the flocking process concept as well as images showing examples of successful use of flocking to add quality and value to many different materials and products. The association hopes to provide you with ideas about how flocking may help you and your business. For more detailed information please contact our member companies or the association directly.
